one big fight
written on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 @ 4:59 PM ✈

A tremendous crowd with sea of green and ocean of blue means only one thing--an epic battle would arise. As my day starts last September 6, I really had a good feeling. Why? Because it is the most-awaited 2nd face-to-face ‘exchange blows’ of the Ateneo Blue Eagles and La Salle Green Archers. My premonition just before the game is that Ateneo would actually win. With
their hard-to-match players, no way you can deny their easy victory. But obviously, it would give them much pressure on putting high level of power to put the green archers down because La Salle is their tough opponent ever since. Anyhow, their rivalry really scares. (But maybe just on the hadcourt, eh?)

Anyway, the historic game goes this way:

As the packed araneta coliseum accommodate about 22,136 persons (mostly Ateneans and La Sallians), a loud howling of the mass give the place an exciting environment. They cheer their hearts out for their respective universities. As time flies in the first few minutes, Chris Tiu had already gained 7 points for their team (one 3-point shot, and free throws.) Then the rest of the troupe follows. Well, Chris made us wowed in his no-look pass to Baldos in the second half of the game. It really amazed the crowd because his move isn’t pretty safe at all with such green archers around him. For some time, Chris can’t be seen because he’s on the bench. Coach Norman probably expects that the greens couldn’t get too high to overpower the blue eagles’ score so I think, he finds substitute for Chris also. On the other hand, I think JV Casio was too pressured that he can’t even shoot an easy lay-up. Perhaps, it might be because of the weight of expectations by all the La Sallians most especially his teammates and Coach Franz Pumaren.

After the fight, ATENEO WON! (Burger! Burger! Burger!) wee!
A great relief for the blue eagles because they’re already assured of the top spot and the twice-to-beat advantage in the semis. BTW, here are the scores:

(ADMU-DLSU)
*1st qtr-21-12
*2nd qtr-36-28
*3rd qtr-54-41
*4th qtr-65-57
*FINAL SCORE: 65-57

INDIVIDUAL SCORES:

Ateneo (65) —Al-Hussaini 18, Baclao 11, Reyes 10, Tiu 9, Salamat 8, Baldos 4, Escueta 3, Buenafe 2, Salva 0, Burke 0, Austria 0;
